James Mant
Director, Places and Precincts for the Department of Transport and Planning
James is a passionate urbanist, responsible for the 2020 海角社区 award winning 20-minute neighbourhood policy and program and the Future Homes program for the Victorian Government.
James advocates for walkable, healthy compact places, great design, place based planning and working in partnership with communities.
He worked on developing Plan Melbourne 2017-2050, Melbourne’s whole-of-government metropolitan strategy, which received a commendation from the 海角社区.
Previously he worked in the State Government’s Rural Council Planning Flying Squad providing support to regional councils and later delivering the government planning response to the Bushfire Royal Commission. He grew up and trained in the UK and also the Netherlands and started his career in Dublin, Ireland.
