The Moreton Bay Place Identity Foundational Directions sets a new standard for community development and place-based strategy in policy-making. This comprehensive framework offers planning and built environment professionals valuable insights into the unique characteristics, traditions, and values of each locality within the City of Moreton Bay. It serves as a guide for interpreting locally distinctive architectural forms, materials and craftsmanship, all inspired by the area's physical, natural, and cultural attributes.
The judges were particularly impressed by the project’s emphasis on genuine collaboration, active listening, and a deep commitment to community engagement. The focus on involving Traditional Owners and Custodians, alongside community members through creative processes and established consultation methods, was a highlight. Recognising the pressures of rapid urban development on long-established communities, this initiative allows local culture, heritage, and connections to Country to inform future planning and design. The judges applaud the project for its innovative and adaptable approach, hoping that the lessons learned will inspire similar exceptional community development and place-based design outcomes throughout Queensland.
