Measuring Health Impacts of Transport Modelling | VIC

Centre for Urban Research - RMIT University

The project Measuring Health Impacts in Transport Modelling demonstrates an outstanding achievement in planning research which progresses the cause of good planning.

Launched in April 2021, the Transport Health Assessment Tool for Melbourne was developed as part of a partnership project between RMIT University’s Centre of Urban Research and the Victorian Department of Transport funded by RMIT University’s Enabling Capability Fund.

The interactive tool identifies the health benefits to a population of replacing short car trips with walking and cycling, to provide planners with an evidence base with which to prioritise and advocate for specific outcomes: such as accessible footpaths and the prioritisation of cycling infrastructure.

This innovative tool is pertinent to current planning practice, and will assist planners to a make well informed decisions with wide ranging benefits to the community.
