The Beachmere Shoreline Management Project delivered an innovative, collaborative, coordinated and well considered plan to manage shoreline erosion, which is a significant matter in the public interest.
The planning methodology utilised is adaptable to different environmental contexts and transferrable to other Local Government Areas along the coastline, to help facilitate their own ground-up response to address the impacts of climate change and build community resilience to natural hazards.
The project advances the importance of good planning and is a great example of how leadership in planning can help expedite the resolution of complex matters. By seeing their role as more than just a black and white regulator, the Moreton Bay Regional Council has achieved better outcomes for the environment, community, and their own processes.
